Product FAQs
- The Library of Diabetes Handouts has been updated in several ways, in response to customer feedback and updated medical practice guidelines. We have improved the portability of the product by providing just the single CD-ROM, rather than the previous heavy binder that accompanied it. The artwork has been simplified for clearer illustrations, and we have lowered the reading level.
- The interface is user-friendly. You can now see the handouts on-screen in their entirety prior to printing, and you now have several options in how you can navigate to your desired pages. The ability to email handouts is also a new feature.
- We have revised specific content. Medications, meters and related medical supplies have changed as necessary, and we have added several new pages on topics not contained in the first edition, including the chapter titles, Making Lifestyle Changes. All content has been favorably reviewed by the American Association for Diabetes Educators, and is medically accurate at the time of publication.
- All of the handouts are PDF files, which require Adobe Acrobat®. Earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat® may limit the quality of the handouts artwork and text; therefore, we recommend using Adobe Acrobat® 9.0 or higher, which you can download at no charge from http://get.adobe.com/reader. Depending on your computer network, you may need to work with your facility's IT department for assistance.
- When my product opens, there is a purple bar at the top of the screen that says, "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records."
Does this mean that I or my patients can type directly onto the handouts? How do I turn off the bar?
- This product has been designed as one interactive PDF file, but the individual handouts themselves are not interactive. Neither you nor your patients can type directly onto the handouts or the worksheets while they are on your screen; they must be printed.
To close this message, click the rectangular icon of the left of this message. It should not appear again when the CD is opened using the same computer.
- Every handout is provided in a color PDF file and a black-and-white PDF file. When you choose a handout, the color PDF opens. If you choose the ‘print bb&w’ tab, the black and white PDF opens.
- Keeping the file version consistent with your printer will result in the highest quality handout possible. Select the color version if you will be printing on a color printer, or select the black-and-white version if you are printing on a black-and-white printer. In addition, be sure to choose your printer’ graphics setting, rather than the text setting.
- We recommend that you print as many copies of the handouts as you wish to distribute. However, if you choose to photocopy them, please experiment with different settings on your photocopier. Most have a photo setting, which will reproduce the graphics best.
- The artwork has been designed to provide maximum detail and clarity when printed using the ‘graphics’ setting and photocopying them using the ‘photo’ settings, as previously recommended.
- You should also select a printer resolution level higher than 700 dpi. This may require you to turn off the EconoMode setting. We recommend experimenting with your printer settings to learn which ones produce the best results.
- Your results will also depend upon variable factors, such as the quality of your equipement and the level of ink or toner in your printer or copier. Experimenting with the light and dark exposure settings on your copier may also help.
- Your purchase of this product allows you to print and copy unlimited quantities of each handout, as long as they are distributed to patients seeding medical care directly from the purchaser.
- Once you have your desired handout on your screen, click the Email button. Your default email browser will open. Simply write your email to your desired email address; the handout file will be sent automatically as an attachment. If you need to change any email settings, or have trouble with this capability, please contact your facility's IT department for assistance.
